YAMINI NAYAR works in Brooklyn, NY. Her practice moves across sculpture, collage, and photography — but the photograph is never documentation. It is the work: the only surviving trace of a built assemblage that is constructed and then closed.
Each site is made from materials close at hand — paperboard, wire, string, pigment, photographic elements. What remains is an image compressed into abstraction, holding the character of primordial forms — unresolved, pre-symbolic.
Her research as an analyst-in-training at the C.G. Jung Institute of New York moves through the same territory — myth, alchemical transformation, the archetypal image before it becomes symbol. Studio practice and analytic training are not parallel pursuits. They inform the same questions.
